About type of art
The Sherpas, after harvest, visit pilgrimages to show their obligation to deities and dance to appease them. This dance is performed on all auspicious occasions and in marriage ceremonies to greet their ancestors. Songs and dances are believed to be transmitted across generations orally. Both males and females wearing traditional costumes dance to the tune of Damphu. It is believed that Damphu playing artists are so powerful that they literally would seal or open the door in the house of the bride during marriage with the beat of the Damphu.
