About type of art
The Karama dance is the most popular dance in Gond, Baiga, Kharwar, Agaria, Panika, and Ghasia tribal communities of Uttar Pradesh. The members of different tribal communities performing this dance believe that supernatural powers remain present during the dance performance. To welcome and appease the supernatural powers people dance and sing throughout the night and bid them farewell at dawn. They perform all the rituals related to the Karma festival, put the Karama branch at the Mandap, and worship it by offering Rice, Turmeric powder, coconut, and a lamp with the tune of a Drum and a symbol. The Gond people dance to appease the Karama devata by worshipping 5 elements like earth, fire, wind, water, and energy of nature for the creation of the earth. The Gond people perform this Karma dance in different festivals, marriage ceremonies, and also in leisure time. Musical instruments such as Nagara, Madal, Kartal, Jhumka, etc. are played in the dance performance.
