About type of art
Kudiya Tribal Dance and Music The Kudiya Tribe, residing in the hill district of Kodagu, Karnataka, indeed possesses a rich cultural heritage deeply rooted in their traditional practices and language. They primarily speak a dialect of Kodagu, which is a Dravidian language, alongside Tulu and Kannada in their interactions with other communities. The use of Kannada script for writing reflects their integration within the broader linguistic and cultural landscape of Karnataka. One fascinating aspect of Kudiya culture is their unique music and dance style known as Uurtti Kott Paat. This musical tradition celebrates the natural gifts of the forests, encompassing elements ranging from the toddy tree (byne) to rocks, elephants, and snakes. This collective celebration of forest elements is referred to as Dudi Kott Patt. It's notable that every song within this tradition, whether for weddings, births, or deaths, begins with honoring the toddy tree, emphasizing its central role in the lives of the Kudiya people. This deep connection to nature and the forest ecosystem reflects the Kudiya community's intimate relationship with their environment and the natural resources that sustain them. Through their music, they not only celebrate their cultural identity but also express their profound reverence for the ecological gifts that surround them.
