These containers are meticulously made from locally sourced wood and often adorned with intricate carvings, decorative elements, or natural finishes. Not only do these containers serve a practical purpose of storing and transporting tobacco, but they also carry deep symbolic meaning within the community. Cultural Significance - (Meaning and importance of the artefact within the tribal community in 500 words) Tobacco boxes are a specialty of the Madia Gond tribe. They make these pogagota or poa tidana ghota by carving wood and joining planks. Hard-shelled fruits, as well as hard-shelled seeds are also used for this purpose. A thin layer of lead is applied on a wooden box to create a craft. Metal boxes of such size are also made, metal and wooden boxes are decorated with handicrafts. They make party-shaped boxes out of wood. The shapes of animals like peacock, landor, rooster are seen in it. The surface is engraved with beautiful crafts or thickness of lines. Shapes of trees, pictures of huts, dance forms are also seen carved on it. Other carvings are fragile due to the limited size of the box. Korku people also make bins.
