Name of Tribal Paintings - Gondi Painting Name of Tribe - Gond Art Form - Gondi Painting Materials Used- Paper/Canvas Handmade paper, canvas or even chart paper that are readily available in the market are used to make Gondi paintings. Colors Bright colors such as red, yellow, blue, green, etc., are commonly used in Gond art. Natural colors are obtained from plants, leaves, charcoal, colored soils, cow dung, etc. Gond artists are now using synthetic colors such as acrylic colors, poster colors and oil paints as they are readily available in the market. Tools Paintbrushes of various sizes are used to make Gondi paintings. Style Particular Pattern and style are used to fill the images. These distinctive patterns are called signature patterns. Some of the patterns used in Gond paintings are- Dots Fine Lines Curved Lines Dashes Fish Scales Drops of Water Seed Shapes Geometrical Shapes, etc. Subject Matter- The Gond tribe is one of the largest tribal communities in India. Gonds are known for their immense culture and Gond painting is a famous folk fine art of the Gond tribal community. It is as type of Mural painting, done beautifully on the walls and floors as part of festival celebrations, primarily using natural pigments for colors from vegetables, flowers, cow dung or mud etc. It is done to preserve and communicate the culture of the Gonds as they take inspiration from Nature to fulfill their life. Dots, dashes, and curved lines are common designs. Elements of nature detailed with repeating patterns are the most recognizable feature of Gond art. The gond art depicts the local flora fauna. For the Gond community, art is everywhere in nature, and nature reflects in their art Symbolic Meanings- The subject of Gond Art is predominantly natural featuring animals, trees and birds. The designs and patterns selected are based on Gondi culture. The unique feature of Gond painting is the liveliness of all living creatures depicted with bold patterns and bright colors.
