About type of art
The exquisite Chenchu dance is performed by Chenchu, a PVTG inhabited in the Nallamal forest of the Eastern Ghats. The only dance known to the Chenchus is called Chenchata, wherein both men and women stand opposite each other and dance to the tune of the dappu (a kind of drum). They normally perform this dance after a drink during the evening. Only the sound of the dappu or thappeta accompanies the dance, and ceremonies are invariably followed by this thappeta dance. The instrument thappeta is made by riveting goat skin to a circular, hollow, flat wooden frame. Every adult male Chenchu is an expert at playing this thappeta.
